Digital Education
Check out the programs below to see how Breck Music evolved and adapted during physical distancing.
Virtual Early Learners
At the beginning of March, Breck Music’s Early Learners program launched in three local preschools - Dillon Valley Elementary, Upper Blue Elementary and Carriage House. Then the COVID-19 pandemic hit, challenging schools and parents to find in-home alternatives for learning and care . Early Learners, in its third year, is a continuing collaboration with Lauren Leeds of Bluesky Music. The goals of this 10-week program are to:
- Develop social emotion and executive function through a diverse collection of songs, singing, movement, instrument play and chants
- Share and learn music from other cultures and generations
- Teach the fundamentals of music, including rhythm, and pitch through language, movement, and exploration.
- Provide teachers the tools and confidence to provide music instruction on their own in the classroom
Instead of visiting each preschool class weekly, Ms. Lauren is now delivering a weekly ‘Early Learners’ video to parents through each participating schools’ administration, including a playlist, songs and other musical activities. Breck Music is proud to continue its community-based early music education in a digital format and provide this resource to local kids and their families. This program will continue through the end of May and conclude with the end of the school year.
Rhythm Renewal
In May, Breck Music Education hosted a four-week online, interactive musical experience that included cultural rhythms, musical games, movement activities, singing, and more to build connections, creativity, and community. Kids, teens, and adults participated. The facilitator, Jonathan Crowder, has been guiding groups in interactive drumming and musical programs for nearly 20 years, including drum circles in Breckenridge for many years.
