KidFest will get you moving and grooving together as a family with free participatory activities. Free performances and 45-minute workshops take place in the heart of Breckenridge on the Arts District Campus and culminate in the free family concert, The Story of Lieutenant Kije at the Riverwalk Center. Pack a dinner and enjoy more music with friends on the Riverwalk Center Lawn.
Story Time & Craft

Featuring the book Trombone Shorty, winner of both a Caldecott Honor and Coretta Scott King Award, is an inspirational look at overcoming our circumstances to follow our dreams. Participants will enjoy exploring musical cultures through storytelling, singing, and craft. Led by Melissa Schultz and co-presented with the South Branch Library.

Find your inner artist and contribute to a large-scale collaborative art piece. The art is sketch by local artist Paige Scheuermann.

Embrace your inner rhythm child and celebrate life, community, and music-making in the moment. This rhythm party will guide participants in playing drums and hand percussion instruments and move the group from a rumble to a solid groove. No previous musical or drumming experience necessary!

Join Breck Music Festival Orchestra musicians in exploring the personalities of various instruments as they sprint through an Olympic array of events!
Instrument Petting Zoo & Craft

Participate in an instrument petting zoo, provided by Swallow Hill, view the large-scale collaborative collage, and make your own instrument with the Mountain Top Children’s Museum.

What happens when someone tells a little white lie? The answer can be found in the story of Lieutenant Kijé, a Russian satire about an army officer who never existed. Watch as three actors and six musicians bring the story and composer Sergei’s Prokofiev’s first film score to life. Produced in partnership with Breckenridge Backstage Theatre.
Community Picnic with Live Music

BYOB (Bring your own blanket) and join us for a post-concert community picnic. Participants are encouraged to bring their own picnic snacks or purchase delicious goodies on site. Enjoy spending time with family and friends and groove to live music provided by Swallow Hill.
